A Davidson Lake Association Board of Directors’ Meeting was held on November 20, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Dumfries Fire Hall.
Review of Minutes
Wayne moved that the minutes from the October 16th, 2011 Board of Directors’ Meeting be approved as distributed. Arnie seconded the motion.
Report from Committees
- Water Quality Committee – Arnie plans to attend a meeting next week with the other lake associations in our area. The President and the head of the Water Committee of each association will be in attendance. The purpose is to see if we can have a coalition of lake associations, which will enable us to have a bigger voice in government.
- Community Services Committee – Don reported there has been no activity with regards to the Neighbourhood Watch Program.
History/Lake Stories Project
Arnie introduced Kim Rae-Niles to the group. He had previously approached Kim to see if she would be willing to take on the task of gathering lake stories, photos, and putting together a newsletter that could be posted on our website. Kim provided a draft copy of different topics that could be added to the website to make it more informative. She suggested adding some icons which would give easy access to the weather network, recent reports, upcoming events, etc. She would like to have a “Cotttagers Help” section where names of people who look after such things as shovelling roofs, repair work, road maintenance, garbage collection, etc. would be listed. Ken will put her in touch with Patrick Arseneau, who looks after our website. Kim has a list of people whom she plans to interview about the history of the lake and has already interviewed one of them.
Davidson Lake Directory
Ken has begun work on a Davidson Lake Directory and showed the group of what he has put together. Discussion developed about whether or not names should be listed in alphabetical order or by address (roads). It was felt it would be useful to have the information listed in both formats. One suggestion was to have local businesses post an ad in the directory, which would help towards the cost of its publication. It is intended to provide a copy of the directory with the purchase of a membership.
Logo
Ken provided a few samples of logos and requested that others see what they can come up with. Which logo we use might be determined by having the members vote on it at our next Annual General Meeting.
Mill Update
Ken received a letter from Hercules Georgiadis, the Environmental Engineer at AV Nackawic, who advised that they have completed all their updates. Ken will invite him to attend our next meeting.
Update from the LSD
Gerard Daly attended the meeting to bring us up to date on a couple of issues:
Roads - With respect to snowplowing, the current contract remains in affect. There should be an opportunity for input next year when the contract comes up for review.
Rural Communities – The LSD is planning to invite someone from the Department of local Government to provide an information session on the concept of Rural Communities and the Association will be invited to attend.
Recognition – Gerard advised that the lake is a significant contributor to the tax base in the LSD and as such has a voice. He encouraged us to advise them on any issues/complaints and they will assist where possible.
Other Business –
Janet asked about what was going to be done with the old culverts that are lying along the side of some of the roads. Ken advised that Danny Cronkhite knew someone who would remove them at no cost. He will give Danny a call to get the contact information and follow up.
Next Directors’ Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. in the Dumfries Fire Hall.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Janet Morton
Secretary
