Janet Morton,Secretary/Treasurer.

Ken showed the group a map of the area around the lake indicating the location of the 6 zones along with the names of two Directors for each zone.   Brian Hayden has replaced Roland Lagacy in Zone 3.

By acclamation, the following will continue to serve as Directors:

Zone 1 – Steven Stairs, Bill Nason

Zone 2 – Lyle Saunders, Don Veysey

Zone 3 – Arnie Wilkins, Brian Hayden

  • Neighbourhood Watch Program –

Don Veysey, Chair of the Community Services Committee, informed the group that the Neighbourhood Watch signs have been installed and that the program is now up and running.  He gave a brief overview of how the program works.  Thankfully, thus far no serious incidents have taken place.

  • Davidson Lake Watershed –

Arnie Wilkins, Chair of the Water Quality Committee, provided an update from his Committee.   He has met with lake association representatives from both Harvey Lake and Lake George and said that Yoho Lake has recently re-established their association.   By combining our efforts with other lake associations, we will have a stronger voice when taking common issues to government.  Both Arnie & Ken plan to attend an upcoming meeting of all lake associations within the province.   This year, the beavers have built their dam further down the outlet, thereby causing less of a problem to the level of the lake.  We have been looking at water testing and hope to have more information from the Dept. of Environment that will help us establish a baseline for the lake water quality.

  • Mill Update –

Ken received an email from Don Murray, Dept. of the Environment, with an update re AV Nackawic.  The first 2 phases to reduce emissions have been completed and the final phase is to be put in place by the end of the year.  In his email, Mr. Murray requested that the public provide any comments regarding mill odour.

  • Shale Gas –

Ken showed a map indicating where shale gas exploration is taking place and we are no longer in that zone.

  • Membership/Financial Statement –

Janet provided copies of the list of memberships for the current year and a financial statement.   Up to the date of the meeting, there were 28 paid-up members.  The financial statement shows a balance of $671.43.

(Secretarial note:    During the meeting, 3 additional memberships were purchased and money received for 5 others, bringing the total to 36 members.)

  • Tower Light –

Ken expressed his thanks to Andy Morton for getting the light on the Rogers tower fixed.  The strobe light in the daytime now changes to a red light at night.

  • Lake Roads –

Carlin Lane Road Committee – Wayne stated that there would be no raffles held this year and money would be obtained by donations only.  With the 42 donors this year and the funds carried over from last, there is a balance of approx. $4,000.  Wayne thanked Sonny Grasse for collecting donations for the Committee.

Sandy Cove Lane Road Committee –  Ken stated that this committee was started only a few years ago.  Shyanne Pangburn has been collecting donations on our side of the lake.  The road received a good grading last spring.  The financial statement shows a balance of $2,397.00.

  • Web Site –

Patrick Arseneau has been working on getting a community page put on the site.  Ken demonstrated how to navigate around the site.  Thanks to Patrick for a job well done!

  • Next Meeting –

The next Annual General Meeting will be held at the end of May or first of June.  A notice will be sent out in advance of the meeting.

  • Discussion –

The subject of road noise was brought up.  Ken reported that he had checked into this previously and was told that the rumble strips would be removed if within 300m.  The highway is approx. 600m from where he is and that is closer than anyone else on the lake.

Brian Hayden asked about testing on the lake and if there were any tools we need.  A dissolved oxygen meter was mentioned.  Ken agreed that this is a good tool to have for testing the level of dissolved oxygen in the water but a secchi disc can help determine the level of turbidity in the short term.

Ken adjourned the meeting at 12:00 noon.

Respectfully submitted,

Janet Morton

Secretary/Treasurer
