Cottage owners with small pets should keep an eye out for these predators. Bald eagles are amazing birds and make great pictures. If you’re lucky you’ll see one dive and grab a fish in the water. Don’t under estimate “Baldy’s” strength as it can attack a small dog if it gets hungry enough.
This picture was taken on the long weekend of May by Steven Stairs. Perched on a tall pine tree on the west side of the lake, this bald eagle was searching for it’s next meal. At one point we saw him dive and chase an adult duck!
It’s that time of year again, to get back to the cottage after the long winter. As you are doing those spring projects please consider “Your Lake” and it’s watershed. The publication below is from the Government of New Brunswick Environment Department and will help you to make decisions on some of those chores.
An interesting sight at the lake on May 15th. The following photo (click to enlarge the picture) was taken by Simon Dickinson in front of his house.
Surf Scoters winter on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and summer in the Arctic. He was just stopping for a rest on his migration north. They are found in New Brunswick in the Bay of Fundy (in the winter) but it is very unusual to see one this far inland.
Did you know that there is a geocache hidden at the lake? Maybe I should start by explaining what geocaching is. Check out this video from geocaching.com. It explains the basics of what you need to know about this great hobby:
Using a GPS unit, anybody can signup for a free membership on geocaching.com, get the coordinates of the cache and go hunt for it. The details of this geocache can be found here.
Residents, cottage owners and land owners of Davidson Lake and Dumfries are invited to an information session prior to the first annual general meeting of the Davidson Lake Association at the Dumfries Fire Hall on Saturday, May 22nd at 11 AM.
This meeting will help inform you on the importance of a lake association and provide an opportunity to become a member of our newly formed association. This association is “your association”!
Your membership will help support our efforts by giving us a bigger voice when dealing with other organizations and politicians. It will also give you voting privileges in our efforts to protect the ecosystem of Davidson Lake and its watershed for our children, grandchildren and all future generations.
